Cypress/Lauricella Breaks Ground on First Vertical

Site rendering

Congratulations to our partners  Cypress Equities and Lauricella Land Company, who kicked off construction on the development's first vertical tower! The state-of-the-art office building will be located at 1600 Convention Center Boulevard, at the corner of Henderson and Euterpe streets. This marks the first Class A office building to be constructed in New Orleans since 1989. Broadmoor, LLC is serving as general contractor for the project.

โ€œI was very excited and pleased to hear about the groundbreaking of the new Shell headquarters building at the River District Neighborhood-New Orleans Convention Center,โ€ said Governor of Louisiana Jeff Landry. โ€œThis building represents the type of Louisiana investment and growth potential that we have been advocating for since my election. Congratulations to all parties on this important milestone."

New Stormwater Management System Installed

1. What is unique about the River District's system? This state of the art system has been custom designed for this project. While similar stormwater management systems have been used in Texas for other large-scale developments, this is among the first sustainable systems in Louisiana to be installed at this scale, and the first StormTrap installation in the state.

2. What is this stormwater management system, and why is it important? This modular system is designed to manage stormwater runoff by storing and controlling excess rainwater during heavy storms. It helps reduce flooding, erosion, and environmental damage, while also ensuring compliance with stormwater regulations, protecting local waterways and supporting sustainable infrastructure.

3. How does the system work, and where can it be installed? This system, developed by StormTrap, collects runoff from impervious surfaces like roads, rooftops and parking lots, temporarily storing it in underground precast concrete structures. The water is released at a controlled rate, reducing downstream flooding and easing the burden on municipal sewer systems. These systems can be installed in various locations, including urban developments, commercial properties, industrial sites, parks and residential neighborhoods. Their modular design allows customization to meet specific site needs.

3 Questions

1. Why is the River District so committed to including affordable and workforce housing?
The River District has always put affordable and workforce housing at the forefront of its commitment to developing a neighborhood for all. This development is a transformative asset for New Orleans, where people can live, work, and play together.

2. What can you tell us about the River District's progress to make affordable and workforce housing a reality? What do you hope to see this year?
We celebrated a big victory  when we were awarded federal tax credits and  grant money for the  housing development in the River District. We are on track to begin the first phase of 220 mixed-income housing units later  this year, with 170 designated as affordable and workforce housing.

3. What do you want folks to remember about this project?
In New Orleans, the process of obtaining funding and clearances necessary to produce affordable and workforce housing is complicated and restrictive. Our team has been going above and beyond, working with City and State officials and other stakeholders to streamline this process. We are proud of our progress, and our efforts are on track.
