It's All in the Name

Our partners at Shell have officially unveiled the name of their future headquarters, rising in New Orleans' River District. Welcome Shell Riverside!

The name Shell Riverside was selected through a spirited internal process, drawing over 300 initial submissions from employees. Submissions were whittled down to five finalists, followed by a staff vote with more than 500 participants! The River District team applauds Shell for another milestone in making this state-of-the-art office tower a reality.

"Shell has always and will continue to hold an advantaged position in the GOA, and the emergence of our new home, Shell Riverside, in the River District fills us with immense pride. This development allows us to honor our long-standing history in New Orleans and positions us to shape its future," said Colette Hirstius, Executive Vice President, Gulf of America for Shell.

The state-of-the-art office building will be located at 1600 Convention Center Boulevard, at the corner of Henderson and Euterpe streets. This marks the first Class A office building to be constructed in New Orleans since 1989.

Progress is Rolling

When it comes to the river height lately...less is more! Like many local projects, progress has been paused by the height of the river for several weeks. As of mid-July, we are happy to report that conditions have improved and we are back to work.

Here are few highlights on our progress:

  • We are 40% complete with the Infrastructure Construction, with plans to complete the first phase mid-2026.
  • The Louisiana Music & Heritage Experience Museum is paving the way for a $165 million cultural destination at the River District, and is making steps forward in their planning and development.
  • Our first Multi-Family Residential phase—220 market-rate, workforce, and affordable units—is on track to break ground early in 2026.
  • We continue active talks with prospective tenants, including well-known restaurant and entertainment concepts.

We look forward to sharing more good news in the near future!

Congrats Jim Cook

The River District team congratulates Jim Cook on his recent appointment as CEO and President for the Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority. We look forward to collaborating in this new era of growth and opportunity for the River District, the Convention Center and the broader New Orleans community.

Around Town

The River District team has been busy! In May, Todd James presented at  University of New Orleans College of Engineering for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Todd highlighted the uniqueness of the River District development and key highlights on project infrastructure. We were also proud to sponsor the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana's Women's Business Symposium, a packed day of empowerment and connection for women in business at the local, regional and national level.

In June, Michael Merideth spoke at the NAREE - National Association of Real Estate Editors annual conference. It was an honor to share highlights of our new development and welcome real estate journalists from across the country to New Orleans. Finally, Louis Lauricella and Todd James provided the Association for Corporate Growth Louisiana with a thorough update of site progress at their regular meeting.
